Freestyle cooking is a cooking style that's separate from the traditional Ragnarok Online cooking. In freestyle cooking you can make a dish by combining various ingredients with each other. In short, in freestyle cooking, you can just slap ingredients together and hope for the best.

This relatively new system is heavily tied with the Fishing System. This is because most of the materials and ingredients that you will use comes from loot that you get from fishing in high level shoals.

This system is currently in its Beta Phase because nothing is final on this current system.

  • There are currently no skills, level and EXP obtainable in this system. No idea if they will be added anytime soon.
  • The effect of dishes are subject for observation and adjustment.
  • There is currently no stamina requirement when cooking (there will be in the future)
  • Cooking currently has no equipment needed except for cooking pots.
  • There are limited number of ingredients available at the moment. Maybe about 30 types.
  • Ingredients success rate may change without notice.

Note: Items, effects, and other aspects may be changed without notice. Furthermore, attempting to abuse this system will be punished accordingly. If you encounter any bugs, please report them as soon as possible.

How To Cook Freestyle

There are some things that you need to know:

  • Each ingredient in freestyle cooking has specific success rate.
  • All fishes in Level 100 shoals (and possibly above) can be used in freestyle cooking.
    • You can also open these fishes and have the chance at getting some ingredients
  • You can combine a maximum of 4 different types of ingredients in freestyle cooking. You can try cooking 1 type of ingredient as well, but you'll have to increase it's quantity to have a higher success chance of creating a dish.
    • For example: You will need 20 x fish meat to have a 100% chance of success in creating a dish.
    • If your success rate isn't at least 100%, you will have a chance of getting a Black Thing dish, which is the result of a failed cooking attempt.
  • Higher quality ingredients usually has higher success rate.
  • Each dish comes with its own unique recipe. While it may require a bit of experimentation, understanding these recipes can empower you to recreate the same dish consistently by combining the same set of ingredients repeatedly.
  • Ordinary Cooking pots are consumed upon use.
    • Sadie Genesis Cooking Pot is currently the only cooking pot that isn't consumed upon use. It's an event limited item. It also +10 Cooking Success Rate, thus saving you on ingredients.
  • There are currently 20+ available dishes. All of them can be made if you have the right ingredients.

Additional Info:

  • There's a fixed recipe for each dish, but each dish has at least three possible variations.
  • If a dish includes certain ingredients, there's a chance you can produce that dish.
    • For example, if Pineapple Under the Sea is used in Honey Vital Tea, then using pineapple gives you a chance to create Honey Vital Tea. However, if you use another ingredient from the recipe, such as Fish Meat, your chances of producing it will increase further.
    • Essentially, guessing at least three ingredients in a dish's secret recipe can help you consistently produce the same dish. The best result is achieved if you know all four ingredients.
    • In this regard, you can keep producing the same dish, unless another dish later is added with at least 3 similar ingredients in its recipe.

Beta Phase FAQ

  • Should I cook now?
    • The decision is entirely yours. There's no pressure to start cooking now. Alternatively, you can choose to wait until the system is fully released..

  • How about low level fishes can we use them as ingredients?
    • No. There are no plans to make low level fishes useful for cooking. You can also cook without high level fishes. Fish meat will most likely be available via an NPC, though at quite a high cost
