Spriting for Dummies - Beginner Edition!
Posted by: Elaina - 05-10-2022, 06:30 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous Guides - No Replies

Spriting for Dummies - Beginner Edition!

Programs needed before starting:
• An Image editing software -> I'll use Photoshop in this guide
• actOR | actOR2 | Act Editor -> I'll use actOR 2 in this guide
• SPRconview -> to put bmps into spr. and vice versa

Step 1: Pick a custom or design one yourself that you want to see later in-game. Do note: You need every single Custom frame from every angle as a single picture.
For this guide I picked a Frozen Ice Dragon Spirit

Now.. depending on the custom you pick, they can have 1 to fifteen frames, unless it's an animated custom, which will have around 40 frames or more depending on the animation. Now we need the frames from all angles, because we want to see the character from all angles right?

To make a custom you'll need a .spr file which has all the images and frames inside and an .act file which holds the positions from the custom (you don't want the custom to be in mid air while you wear it right?)

We'll start with creating a .spr file
The first thing we'll do is to make sure that every file we have is an individual picture so we can edit every frame.

As you can see we got 5 frames in total and they are covering every angle.
The second thing would be the edit of the colours so SPRconview knows what background color should be transparent.
For that we'll open Photoshop, pick the first frame, then click on Image -> Mode -> Indexed Color

Click on indexed color and then you'll see this window popping up.

This step is very important or it'll mess your colors up. We will change the Palette to "Custom..." to make the background of the custom transparent. Otherwise you would run around with a Red square. Would look silly, right?
(Make sure that before you select Custom, the drop down menu is already set to Exact. If not, select Exact and then go to Custom.)
Once you picked Custom and clicked OK
Then a window like this will appear

Basically we are switching the colors between the transparent background color and the black color.

The first color of the palette will be the transparent background color. In our case it would be red. So we pick the red color from our palette and put it in the first slot. Once done, click on "Save..." and save the palette somewhere. I've saved my palette file out as "palette_frozenIDS.act." <- This is not the act file we'll edit later so you might want to save it somewhere else so you won't get confused. Now that you have all of the color information done, save your file. Save it as an 8-bit .bmp file. All of your frames should have the same color palette. You can load your color palette by going to the "Custom" drop down menu and clicking "Load..." on the right hand side to select your palette file.

Repeat this step for all your frames.

Now your folder should look like this
[Image: RdBsTWW.png]

Now go into your sprite data folder and pick a headgear that you feel is the closest to the headgear you're working on. For the Frozen IDS, I've chosen the Ice Dragon Spirit. So copy and paste the .act/.spr files of the headgear into the folder of the headgear you are working on.

Now open up SPRconview. Now go to Convert > Bmp to Spr. You will get another pop up window. Add all of the frames of your headgear and make sure that they're in numerical order. Under where it says Sprite, hit Browse and browse to where you saved the .spr file of the headgear you chose. Remember, I chose the Ice Dragon Spirit. After you've done that, click Convert. Done with your .spr file!

When you do this, SPRconview will replace the images of the original headgear with the ones you have made. Open up the .spr file and check to make sure everything is alright! Scroll through it and make sure the colors aren't all off either, as well as the transparency.

It does look fine for me or what do you think? Save it! Now we'll get to the .act file!

Open actOR 2 and open the .act file you dragged out of your sprite folder earlier

It should look like this once you opened it. Don't worry some sprites can be off location.. then you'll just have to set them to the correct location on the small window.

Now I'll explain what you can see in Actor
[Image: STyz3WJ.png]

  • Action - This refers to each of the acts that correspond with an action in Ragnarok. In the drop down menu, there are 13 acts, going from 0-12. Act 00 is the act for standing, act 01 is for walking, act 02 is for sitting, etc. You have to check every single act and every single direction to make sure that the custom locations are set properly. This is the most time consuming and annoying part.
  • Direction -  This shows all the directions of the sprite that'll be in-game. Make sure that every frame is set correctly.
  • Sprite Frames -  for each pose/angle, there are several frames. this scroll bar scrolls through all of them. You must check through all of these to make sure that the custom locations are set properly.
  • Reference -  This is just a help for the player to set his custom location easier. It has no impact on the sprite or in-game.
  • Xoffs -  this is the x-coordinate of the headgear. You can edit this value by clicking and dragging the headgear by hand, or hold the value under Xoffs with a certain timing to change it numerically.
  • Yoffs - this is they-coordinate of the headgear. You can edit this value by clicking and dragging the headgear by hand, or hold the value under Yoffs with a certain timing to change it numerically.
  • EXT -  this simply refers to the reference head sprite/hairstyle. It has no impact on the actual sprite or in-game.
  • Mirror - On some directions you'll have to mirror your sprite. Click on Mirror so your sprite will gain a red square and then click on the sprite to press M to mirror it.
  • ROT - This is the Rotation which is mostly used for the Act where you pick up items.
  • That is basically all you need to know of actOR 2 to get the job done.

Now you must go through all the .act's angles and frames to make sure the custom locations are correct. Once you are done, simply save your file. Now you have your own self made custom!

This will be the last Part of this guide - Adding the sprite into the game!

First off, you'll go into your data folder -> then you go into the sprite folder -> you'll see two folders there -> go into the ¾Ç¼¼»ç¸® folder -> now you are at the point where you see a ³² folder and a ¿© folder. What do they mean?
  • The ¾Ç¼¼»Ç¸® folder is where your headgears reside. Underneath this folder are two other folders.
  • ¿© is the female folder -> put your custom in this if you want your custom to be available for females
  • ³² is the male folder -> put your custom in this if you want your custom to be available for males
Your custom sprite and act file need to have one of the two prefixes in their name. For example: I picked the name ³²_frozenIDS earlier, so my custom will be shown for males only and it'll be put into the ³² folder.

If you also want it to be for females available or only shown for females then you'd have to rename it into ¿©_frozenIDS and put it inside the ¿© folder. You can also rename your self-made custom into one of your customs that you are using to change the sprite of your custom into your self-made one! But note: You are the only one who can see the self-made sprite.

I hope I'll see some great artworks someday!

Hero - Elite Weapon Quest Guide
Posted by: Elaina - 05-10-2022, 03:19 PM - Forum: Quest Guides - Replies (5)

After completing the Elite Hero Quest, your next step is to acquire the weapon that will symbolize your rank as an Elite Hero.

WORDS OF CAUTION:

  • When doing the four pre-requisite quests, do follow the guides closely and avoid diverting from what is indicated. This is to minimize the chances of any bugs and errors from happening.
  • Some NPCs may need to be talked to MORE THAN ONCE. They may have different dialogues each time. You won't be able to trigger the next part of the quest without exhausting an NPCs responses.
  • Sometimes, some NPCs will not trigger their supposed dialogue. These four quests were originally made without the intent of players just warping directly to the quest NPCs. In this case, you may need to walk around the area of the NPC. After that, try talking again to the NPC.

MAKING THE WEAPONS
After confirming that you are an Elite Hero, Eitri (@warp tha_t06 161 51)will tell you that he's working on your weapon. However, he wants you to help out one of his three acquaintances before he's done. Since he's making the weapon for you for free, it's probably the least you can do.

The three quests are based mostly on bravery and the theme of heroism, which reflects the prerequisite quests. The quests are as follows:

Luminary Fragments Quest
In order to create the Luminary Fragments (Dawn Essence, Cold Moonlight, Hazy Starlight, and Dusk Glow), you have to talk to the Warlock of the Sun NPC in @warp gonryun 36 15 and bring the required items:
Note 1: For Dawn Essence, if you failed The Sign Quest, you need 15 Emblem of the Sun God, 600 Crystal Fragment and 1B Zeny to proceed.
Note 2: For Dusk Glow, only the fragments are consumed, nothing else. You will still have the Dawn Essence/Cold Moonlight/Hazy Starlight stones.

Hero Remains Quest
[Image: Ozp4Wth.png]
  1. Speak to Lost Valkyrie (@warp ra_san01 139 270). Agree to help her out, and she'll tell you to look for a dwarf named Brokkr, who is studying some ancient ruins in a cave somewhere.
  2. Speak to the Son of Ivaldi, or as known as Brokkr (@warp jupe_cave 152 49). He's deeply engrossed in his work, so you'll have to talk to him a few times until you get his attention.
  3. After you manage to get his attention, he'll tell you to look for a piece of metal he left in his room in his home.
  4. You can find the metal hidden in a chair at @warp cave 185 64 and click on the chair to get a Brynhildr Armor Piece.
  5. Go back to Lost Valkyrie (@warp ra_san01 139 270), who will then tell you to go find a swordswoman named Sieglinde. Sieglinde is located somewhere in @warp prt_fild01. She moves around, so you need to look for her, although she prefers the left half of the map most of the time.
  6. Once you talk to her, she'll start smacking you around, so make sure you have enough HP to spare.
  7. She'll ask you for a proof of your word. Type in exactly Brynhilds Armor Piece in the input prompt.
Note: Here you need type exactly!!!(Note: If you input the name wrong, you'll be warped to a random spot on the field. Be careful.)

  8. She'll then give you Andvari's Ring.
  9. Back to Lost Valkyrie again, and she confirms your suspicions of who you're trying to hunt. Before you can draw the spirit back, however, she needs 200 Valhalla Flowers as an offering.
  10. Once you've given the flowers, talk to Lost Valkyrie again and she'll warp you to the map of the seal. You have ten minutes to complete this part of the quest before you're automatically warped out.
  11. Walk down the long path, making sure to get both message prompts that pop up. Once you reach the end of the path, you're given a choice to proceed or warp out.
  12. Once you proceed, you must fight Spirit of Brynhildr.
  13. (Note: Only one person can be on the map at a time, and if it won't let you proceed, either someone is on the map or you're missing the items you got earlier.)
  14. After defeating her, talk to Lost Valkyrie, and then talk to her again in the Sanctuary. She'll give you the Hero's Remains as thanks.

Goddess Tear Quest
[Image: ozM1Ezq.png]
  1. Speak with the Wayfarer in Prontera Church (@warp prt_church 96 116). After a round of introductions, speak to her again to learn her plight.
  2. Depending on the criteria you've accomplished, choose either the first or second option to continue. She'll then tell you a tale about Freya's Tear, and then ask you to go see her brother Sindaj on the outskirts of Veins.
  3. Find Sindaj outside of the town (@warp ve_fild06 84 237) and talk to him. He'll tell you about the various pieces of valuable jewels he's found regarding Freya's Tear, and tells you the best place to look is outside Thor Volcano.
  4. Go to ve_fild03. There are numerous spots to start mining in, and Sindaj says that you have to work from the outside in. With that in mind, head over to the area in the northwest, around (@warp ve_fild03 33 155).
  5. At this point, walk around near the corner until you see a progress bar appear over your head. You have to stand still during the whole duration for the next part to proceed. If you successfully mined something, you'll see more text come up, but you'll see the Refine Fail animation if you don't. Just keep trying.
  6. Eventually, you'll get the text and be prompted to move to the next spot.
  7. Head to these coordinates in the following order:
    1. [252 175]    2. [118 206]    3. [315 260]    4.[143 238]
  8. Once you receive the prompt for the last stone, you'll be warped back to Sindaj.
  9. After berating you on your carelessness, Sindaj will examine the stone you found. Talk to him repeatedly until he tells you more, and then he'll want you to gather more minerals and stones to perfect the one you found.
  10. Bring him the nine items indicated in the requirements above.
  11. He'll then polish the stone up for you and tell you to give it back to Wayfarer.
  12. Go back to Wayfarer (@warp prt_church 96 116). She thank you for your effort and gives you the stone you worked hard to find, the Goddess Tear.

For your first weapon, you only have to do ONE of the six things above that will lead to the creation of a stone; that's it. Once you do that, return to Eitri and he will give you the choice of which weapon from your class you want.

For your second weapon, Eitri will request the following:
  • Dawn Essence
  • Cold Moonlight
  • Hazy Starlight
  • Dusk Glow
  • Hero's Remains
  • Goddess Tear
  • The completion of the four pre-requisite quests

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The Sign Quest:
  • A problem I've been seeing is that people aren't paying attention to the dialog in certain routes, more importantly path 6B if you're following the iRO wiki guide, which causes them to fail the rest of the quest.
  • Failing the quest would mean you won't receive Lucifer's Lament at the end of the quest.
  • Failing the quest would mean the NPC at @warp gonryun 36 15 will mark the Sign Quest as INCOMPLETE since you DID NOT receive Lucifer's Lament at the end of the quest, meaning you won't be able to do the quests for Dusk Glow. Only Dawn Essence provides a more expensive alternative to obtain it.
  • Failing the quest would mean Eitri will still mark the Sign Quest as Complete, HOWEVER, Dusk Glow may have to be bought from other players or gained via Press Your Luck.
  • The times have been modified so they are far more accessible to everyone. More importantly, the wait times near the end of the quest have been changed so you don't have to go back during a specific hour. Simply wait the amount of time and then go pick up the Sign.

Schwartzvald Quest Arc:
  • The Cursed Spirit quest seems to be giving people trouble with how certain steps don't seem to happen. Due to the way it's scripted, it's very picky about which variables go where, so you need to make sure to follow the iRO wiki guide exactly. If you can't get step 11 to happen, go back to step 7 and do everything again, making sure you don't hit the same "curse" points twice. You'll eventually be able to proceed.
  • What most people seem to miss is at step 7, after you get cursed, continue walking forward. You'll see a representative there and you must speak with her first. Most people tend to warp to the next coord automatically.

ELITE WEAPON EXP
  • Elite Hero Weapon Level 1 = from 1 to 1999 kills
  • Elite Hero Weapon Level 2 = from 2000 to 3999 kills
  • Elite Hero Weapon Level 3 = from 4000 to 11999 kills
  • Elite Hero Weapon Level 4 = 12000 kills or higher and be a division Major
Note: You need activate your elite weapon by talking to Elite Hero's Memory (@warp ayo_in02 72 176) in Hero Temple in order to make use of its effects.

PRE-REQUISITE QUESTS
  • The Sign
  • Kiel Hyre
  • Arunafeltz Quest Arc
  • Schwartzvald Quest Arc

WARRIOR'S SPIRIT
The Elite Hero Spirit resides in the same map as Eitri, in the upper left area of the map (@warp tha_t06 90 181).

After you get your second weapon from Eitri, if you decide you don't like one of them, the Elite Hero Spirit will offer to transmute one of your weapons into the other one Eitri offered for free. However, he will only do this ONCE for you, so be careful!

Note: After using the Warrior's free transmutation service, you will need an Emblem of Valor for him to provide his service again.

  Hero - Hero Quest Guide
Posted by: Elaina - 05-10-2022, 01:54 PM - Forum: Quest Guides - No Replies

The Hero Quest is a unique quest that allows your character to have additional stats and skill points after reaching level 500. It's like rebirthing your character once again. It also gives you the ability to wear stronger rank weapons and equipment.

PART 1 - Start of Quest and Item Gathering

  1. Go to ayo_in02 100 165. Talk to Sigmund.
  2. He will give you the item requirements.
  3. After obtaining all of the required items, go back to Sigmund. Talk to him and he will rebirth you to a Hero Class.

After being rebirthed into a Hero Class, you will go back to level 1 and be given the following benefits:
  • +2500 stat points
  • +108 skill points
  • 1 Hero Aura ( 3 x 3 splash. 3% atk and matk) lower headgear

ITEM REQUIREMENTS
[Image: qvMY1gJ.png]

Item Hunting Guide

Among those requirements the hardest to obtains are the following.
  • 1 Draconus Scale.
  • 10 pcs Biotites.
  • 100 Warrior Skulls. (This is also called PVP Skulls, and not the normal skulls from monsters).
  • 10 pcs of each Fragment

Biotites
It is recommended to buy the 10 pcs biotites unless you are willing to wait for a Mysteltainn to respawn.
alde_dun04 = 60 to 90 minutes
gefenia01 = 180 to 300 minutes
gefenia02 to 04 = 300 to 540 minutes
gl_cas02 = 120 to 180 minutes
gl_knt02 = 30 to 50 minutes

It is faster to farm Zeny to buy Biotites than wait for those Mysteltainn to respawn.
You can also use Dead Branch and wish for your luck that a Mysteltainn will be summoned from it.

Warrior Skulls
Same with Biotites it is much better to buy it from players rather than collecting them from PvP arena. The usual cost is 1m to 2m each.

Also it's dropped by all monsters in lhz_dun03 (3% chance)

Note: Warrior Skull description is "A skull in which someone's name has been curved" and has an item ID of 7420.

Fragment of Despair, Hatred, Agony, and Misery
Thanatos fragments are tradeable from players. The best location for hunting this fragments are tha_t05, tha_t06, tha_t07 and tha_t08.

On those locations Thanatos minions respawn instantly after they were killed. On other map there are fake Thanatos minions that doesn't drop the fragments.

You can also use Dead Branch to summon those Thanatos minions through luck.

Draconus Scale
Draconus scale is a drop from a custom MVP in dRO. Do note that the scale is character bound. Make sure to loot it with the character that you wish to turn into a Hero. Draconus is an MVP that looks like Detale but way stronger.

There are 2 types of Draconus: The Easy one and the Hard one. Both of them drops the scale.

The Hard one can be found in mag_dun02 (mag_dun01 241 241). It has an estimated respawn time of 3 hours. Some veteran players love hunting this one because of its card. You can ask them to simply give you the scale.

The Easy one can be found in Hero Temple. You need to talk to the Young Lady [ayo_in02 92 172] and pay 1 billion zeny for an unlimited access to a instance that holds the weaker Draconus. She will warp you to the weaker version of Draconus once you fulfilled the requirements that she asks. You will need to be in a party to enter this weaker Draconus' instance. However, you must be the only member of your party.

Note: It is not very weak. Just way weaker than the one in mag_dun02.

PART 2 - Crafting Your Glorious Equipment
After becoming a hero talk to Sigmund again, he will mention the blacksmith Regin at Einbroch. Warp to [ein_in01 28 85] and talk to Regin, he will take the rest of the Hero Quest items. He will tell you to wait for him to create the items. You must wait 2 hours ONLINE in order for him to finish. Or simply just exit, re-enter the room, and speak to Regin several times until he gives you those equipments.

PART 3 - Ranking Your Hero Character
All new heroes will start at Rank D. Here are the ways to increase your Rank:
  • Monster Arena.
  • PVP.
  • Caspen Dungeon
  • Bossnia Dungeon
  • Trial of Glory
Note: Monster Arena is the fastest way to rank your hero. It is a map full of monsters and you only need to kill them repeatedly. To access Monster Arena you need to finish first the Heavenly Flower Quest.

Heavenly Flower Quest
Go to [lighthalzen 40 240] and talk to the NPC named Heimer. He will ask you to find an item called [Heaven Flower].

The Heaven Flower can be found in [odin_tem03] in 3 possible random locations:
  • odin_tem03 171 306
  • odin_tem03 309 184
  • odin_tem03 236 115

This is not a 100% drop rate. So if you don't get the Heaven Flower on the first time, you need to reset back to Heimer and start again.

Note: When you click the flower two Lord Knights will spawn. Kill them as fast as you can to obtain the flower.

Ranking in WEAPONS/PVP/WoE
You can also obtain hero experience by killing players in PVP arena and WoE.

Not the fastest way to rank up, unless you have a guild or group of friends who knows nothing but to PvP everyday.

Caspen Dungeon
Caspen Dungeon is a customized dRO dungeon. Each monster kill gives you hero experience too.

It is not an average dungeon even for veteran. It is not very advisable to rank your character here unless you are a GX.

Bossina Dungeon
Bossnia Dungeon is a customized dRO dungeon. Each monster kill gives you hero experience too.

The monsters here also drop the Red, Blue, and Yellow Charms. These Charms have various uses like catalysts for summoning Addax (a very tough boss monster) and crafting Fused MVP Cards. It is highly advised to use water property attacks and skills in this dungeon.

Trials of Glory
Trial of Glory is like an arena with 10 levels. It gives experience upon finishing each level. Additional Exp for completing it.

The Test:
You need to kill 25 Evil Spirits in 5 minutes and 30 seconds, without dying. But there are fake spirits that LOOK the same, but their names are spelled different. If you kill a fake one, you have to restart the test over again. The map will look like the Bossnia map.
